"Remind me again how you talked me into doing this?" asked your friend, Alfred, as he pulled into a parking spot in front of the eerie Stanley Hotel.
"Gladly," you said, "I went with you to ComicCon and missed the last public investigation that the Ghost Adventures Crew did here. You said you'd let me do something with you that you didn't want to do to repay me."
"Yeah, but why did you have to pick this?"
"Because I want to prove to you that ghosts aren't as scary as those horror movies of yours portray them." you matter-of-factually explained, "That and I need to test the Full Spectrum Video Goggles."
The Full Spectrum Video Goggles were a device that you helped create with your fellow paranormal investigator and GAC fan, Cali.
"Cali and I finished building them last month and since she couldn't come, I promised to test them for her at this event." you said as you got out of Alfred's truck and pulled the black case containing the device out of the back seat.
Alfred reluctantly got out and walked with you to the intimidating building. As the two of you entered, you noticed that the table for the lockdown hadn't been set up yet.
"Well it looks like can go back home for a while!" Alfred quickly said, "Come on _____, let's- OW!"
You grabbed hold of his ear and yanked him down to your eye level.
"Oh no you don't!" you snarled, "I made a promise to Cali and I never break promises."
You practically threw him down into one of the lobby's chairs and plopped down in the one right next to his. You weren't sure when the GAC would arrive, so you decided to take a little catnap while you waited, Alfred soon following you into dreamland.

You were awakened by the sound of boxes being placed on a table. Your (e/c) eyes fluttered open and you saw Zak Bagans, Nick Groff and Aaron Goodwin setting up for the event. You nudged Alfred hard, waking him up instantly. He looked up at you with big, blue, puppy dog eyes.
"Why'd you wake me up?" he whined, "I was dreaming about eating the world's largest Big Mac!"
"Well, I thought maybe you could help them set up, because heroes help people." you pouted, pointing at the GAC.
Alfred sprang out of his seat and struck a heroic pose.
"Of I'll help them, because I'm the hero!" he shouted, making the guys look over at the two of you.
Alfred grabbed your arm and sprinted over to Zak, Nick and Aaron. He stopped in front of them and saluted. Thankfully, the guys played along and saluted back.
"Alfred F. Jones and ______ ______, at your service! Is there anything we can help you with?"
"Well, we could use some help unpacking." said Zak, "Could you and ______ help us, Alfred the hero?"
"Yessir!" Alfred flashed his goofy grin and got to work.
You rolled your eyes and smiled. You set the black case on the table and started opening the boxes. As you finished your third box, you felt a hand rest on your shoulder. You turned around and saw that it was Aaron. He smiled and pointed at the case.
"Hey _____, what's in that case?"
"It's a device that my friend and I invented." you replied as you took the case off of the table.
You undid the clasps, opened the case and pulled the Full Spectrum Video Goggles out. You hit the power switch and put the video goggles on to make sure that it was still functioning properly after being rattled around by Alfred's crazy driving. You handed the goggles to Aaron.
"They're Full Spectrum Video Goggles. Cali designed them and we built them together. This will be their first test run." you explained as he tried them on.
"That's right!" said Aaron as he looked around the room with the goggles, "She sent me a letter about these a while back. Hey guys! Come check this out!"
Alfred, Zak and Nick came over and Aaron handed them the goggles.
"So that's what they look like!" smiled Alfred, "You never showed them to me before."
"Yeah, sorry for being so secretive, but I didn't want you to mess with them." you replied.
"I'm guessing that you and Alfred are staying for the investigation tonight." said Nick as he tried them on.
"Yup!" you replied with a smile, "I'm here to test out the video goggles and to help Alfred with his fear of ghosts. He thinks they're just like the ones in horror movies and I've tried to convince him to watch your show with me but I haven't succeeded."
"T-that's not true!" argued Alfred, "I watched it with you once!"
"You barely made it through the first part of the walk through!"
"Alfred, trust me, real ghosts aren't exactly like the ones you see in horror movies." stated Zak as he took his turn with the goggles.
"You mean they're worse?!" whimpered Alfred.
"No, some ghosts are bad, but most of the bad ones can't harm you." you explained.
"Right," said Zak, "most bad spirits don't have enough energy to hurt people. And most entities aren't evil at all; we actually know a few ghosts that protect the living."
   "Really?"
"Yeah. Dude! Aura! Blade! We've got some friends we'd like you to meet!" Nick called into the room.
The air around the five of you grew cold, yet there was a comforting, almost cheerful feeling to it. The Ovulus II on the left side of the video goggles started talking.
   "Hello. Guys."
Your (e/c) orbs sparkled in amazement. Cali had told you about the Defender Ghosts, but you thought that they were merely one of her wild fantasies. You yelped as Alfred grabbed you tightly and used you as a shield.
"Hey guys! Which one of you is talking through the device right now?" asked Nick.
   "Dude." chimed the Ovulus II
"Alfred, why don't you talk to Dude?" suggested Aaron, "He's a really friendly guy."
   "Uh...okay."
Alfred timidly took the video goggles from Zak, placed them over his glasses and began conversing with the spirit.
   "Um...Hi Dude."
   "Hi. Alfred."
Alfred scanned the room and then he suddenly stopped. His eyes were locked on a spot next to Zak.
"There's three ghostly thingies on the screen!" shouted Alfred, the video goggles rattled against his glasses as he shook.
You grabbed his hand in an effort to calm him down. He took the video goggles off and handed them to you.
"I think that's enough testing for now!" he quickly stated, "You should save the batteries for tonight."
You nodded and put them back in the case after you turned them off. The presences of the three Defender Ghosts remained as the five of you finished setting up the table.
'They really are protective of them, aren't they?' you asked yourself.
"I didn't think we'd get done that fast!" said Aaron, breaking your train of thought, "Thanks a bunch guys!"
"No problem, Aaron!" beamed Alfred, "After all, I'm the hero and heroes help everyone! Well, everyone except bad guys."
"Good thing we aren't bad guys!" laughed Nick.
You and Alfred chatted with the GAC for a while; Zak even signed your copy of "Dark World". Soon enough, the other participants arrived and the two of you said goodbye to the guys for the time being.
To be continued
Hooray for author and character insertion in a reader insert! :iconkermityayplz: Wha!? A two part reader insert? *le gasp* I'm sorry that I've made Alfred into such a wuss here, but he's afraid of ghosts! What did you expect?
